The Second Week

Patience.

Now I've discovered the importance of this in many ways simply because it is so pervasive in our life- we can't live with out it.We learn patience in gardening, time-out, meetings, conversations, and so much more. Usually, our patience is greeting with what we want- a harvest, freedom, an end to the meeting, mutual respect, ect.
However we often forget this important lesson. Now, I'm not going to say that instant communication over the internet has ruined us, in fact I think that waiting for a download teaches us nothing except for how poor our internet connection is. However I still think we forget the lesson of waiting politely, because if we aren't waiting politely then we aren't being patient, because we're being rewarded for being rude. You also find that waiting patiently won't increase your chances of getting a table sooner or getting your file reviewed without some corrupt money making its way into the right pockets. Meanwhile, people have to wait even longer while the impatient get their greedy way and walk all over other people.
Patience in arguments can also help make them productive discussions intead of disorderly shouting matches. Listening and thinking about what the other person said is essential in creating an effective counter argument and therefore will make you a more articulate and successful proponent for your side.
So how about the next time you want to speed past the car going just under the speed limit ahead of you or curse out the imbicile on the otherside of the phone, you take a deep breath, and exercise a little patience?
